OpenBSD 5.5 for dedicated servers
« on: July 16, 2014, 02:26:48 PM »

Hello,

From now on OpenBSD 5.5 is available for all dedicated servers for automatic installation. Like the two previous versions the current OpenBSD version provides numerous features and improvements, especially for the MTA OpenSMTPD (5.4.2). With the conversion of the Unix time counter time_t on 64-bit, OpenBSD bypasses the year 2038 problem.

In addition to improvements in userland programs like dhcpd and the firewall pf especially the driver support for individual Realtek and Intel chips was continued. While the OpenBSD ports system is not as extensive as that of FreeBSD or NetBSD, but includes more than 8,700 packages. Most of them are available as pre-compiled binary packages and need a valid digital signature for installation.

More features:

- OpenSMTPD 5.4.2
- numerous new virtualization drivers (eg for KVM and VMware)
- OpenSSH 6.6
- over 8,700 ports, numerous stability and performance updates

kind regards,
Katrin
