Distribution FreeBSD10 for dedicated servers available
« on: January 31, 2014, 10:00:42 AM »

Hello,

The first release of the "stable branches " 10 of FreeBSD is now available in the EUserv customer panel for installation on dedicated servers. Who does not want to rely on the standardized installation, can set up a customized installation with the live system.

FreeBSD 10.0 comes with one of the most important new support for Trim and LZ4 for ZFS. By Trim a more efficient use of SSDs is possible because it informs the operating system about vacant and thus re-writable memory areas of the SSD. The basic system is now turning to the x86 systems no longer to GCC as the default compiler. Instead, "Clang" is employed.

"make" was also replaced by "bmake", known from NetBSD. The well-known "pkg_add", "pkg_info", etc. have given way to the extended multiple features Package Manager "pkg (ng )".

In terms of hardware and driver integration, the popular Unix variant now supports up to 4TB of RAM. Additional drivers allow to run FreeBSD as a guest under Microsoft 's Hyper-V.

According to developers FreeBSD 10.0 will be supplied  with updates until the end of January 2015  in the current state.

Other new features:

- BIND has been replaced by Unbound
- Pkg is the default package manager
- Virtualization: bhyve and virtio drivers added
- Support for the LZ4 compression algorithm ZFS

kind regards,
Katrin
