4) Security News: Vulnerability in Linux library Glibc


Published under designation CVE-2015-7547 security experts revealed a critical vulnerability in the central Linux library Glibc a few days ago. This fault exists in Glibc version 2.9 and younger what means that it will exist in almost all Linux distributions since 2008.

Source of defect is the getaddrinfo() function, which is used to resolve network names. An intentional exploit of this vulnerability offers the opportunity to infiltrate foreign code on an Linux based system via targeted DNS responses so that the resolver may crash and lead to a buffer overflow. As a result previously infiltrated foreign code can be executed on the effected system. Meanwhile there are updates available for most of the important Linux distributions (Debian Ubuntu, Red Hat, Suse). The EUserv security team strongly recommends all server customers to update their systems as soon as possible!
