Title: tools/webconsole requirements?
Post by: wt-newell on December 08, 2020, 03:26:14 PM
What is required on the guest VM for the webconsole to work? I was just playing around, and it seems like the webconsole will not allow logins with my usual ssh server config. I run a non-standard port instead of tcp/22, and I turn off password authentication to force public key auth. The only way I could get the webconsole to work was to run the ssh server on port 22 and allow password auth, which feels less secure than keys only.

If I had to guess, I'd say the webconsole doesn't actually connect to /dev/console (or /dev/ttyS0, etc), but hits the ssh port instead. I also didn't see any way to select the tcp port number.

For me, an emergency console that requires ssh password auth on port 22 isn't very useful.

Hi, sorry for that late reply.

Please clarify what you mean with Webconsole? Do you mean the basic tools from customer panel? If yes, please take care that this is just a basic SSH tool on standard TCP22.
