Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS for dedicated servers available
« on: April 29, 2014, 05:44:32 PM »

Hello,

Ubuntu 14.04 "Trusty Tahr"  is now available for automatic install in version "Standard" and "RAID1" for all dedicated servers in the customer panel.

As LTS ("Long Term Support") "Trusty Tahr" intends to release updates prospectively until  the end of 2019.

Ubuntu Server 14.04 comes with a number of new features. A Kernel 3.13, which supports Open vSwitch 2.0.1 comes with improvements in Bonding and Bridging.

Regarding virtualization, ARM support for Xen and KVM needs to be mentioned. In addition, KVM (and Qemu) comes in version 2.0.0 and libvirt is available in version 1.2.2.

Despite the likely impending switch to systemd, Ubuntu continues with Upstart (1.12.1) as Iinit system. The cloud software OpenStack, in conjunction with the memory architecture ceph, ensures continuity with previous releases.

The main innovations of "Trusty Tahr"

- Xen 4.4 and KVM / Qemu 2.0.0 with ARM Support
- OpenStack 2014.1 " IceHouse "
- MySQL in version 5.5 / alternative MariaDB 5.5 or MySQL 5.6
- The Apache Web Server Version 2.4 comes with PHP 5.5

kind regards,
Katrin
