Scientific Linux 7 for dedicated servers available
« on: October 16, 2014, 05:34:34 PM »

Hello,

After CentOS 7, RHEL clone "Scientific Linux 7" has now been published. With a few exceptions Scientific Linux is binary compatible with RHEL. Mainly created for the scientific communtiy, the distribution can now be installed in version standard or RAID for dedicated servers via the customer panel.

Scientific Linux 7 runs on a kernel 3.10. like RHEL. As with RHEL, XFS is used as the default file system; the switch to GRUB 2 and the init system systemd was carried out simultaneously. In addition, SL 7 supports the distributed file system "OpenAFS". A new feature is the "auto-update" (package "yum-cron"), with which automatic system updates can be performed in the background.

More features:

- Systemd as init-system
- Kernel 3.10.0-123
- distributed file system OpenAFS
- container virtualization using LXC

kind regards,
Katrin
